Pennsylvania Middle School Association Honors Senator James J. Rhoades

Senator James J. Rhoades (R-29) is the recipient of the first ever "Advocate for Public Education" award by the Pennsylvania Middle School Association (PMSA) at a recent conference held in Harrisburg.  Rhoades was honored for his continued and vigorous support for the public education.

"As a former teacher and principal, I am honored that the PMSA has chosen to give me this prestigious award," said Rhoades.  "It is important that associations, like PMSA, continue to strive to empower others for the well-being of each and every student."

This is the first time that PMSA has ever given an award to a legislator for distinguished service to young adolescents. Senator Rhoades was nominated for the award by his peers and was unanimously confirmed by PMSA at a recent conference held in Hershey.

PMSA serves as a voice for those who are committed to the educational and developmental needs of young adolescents and promotes the best practices for middle school education.

According to Rhoades, the National Middle School Association was created in 1973 and is the only national educational association that is dedicated exclusively to the growth of middle level education. Current membership is over 30,000 people representing teachers, administrators, professors, college students, parents, community leaders and educational consultants from across the United States, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, and Australia.

Additionally, PMSA and NMSA provide an opportunity for association presidents, executive directors, conference chairperson and other key leadership personnel to network, share ideas, and promote best practices for middle level students.

" PMSA and NMSA has played a very important role in making Pennsylvania's middle level schools more effective," said Rhoades. " PMSA should be commended for its continuing dedication to our young boys and girls."
